Bike Fitting FAQ's

Bike Fitting FAQs

Answered by a Professional Bike Shop in Las Vegas/Henderson, NV

A proper bike fit can completely change how your bike feels — more comfort, more efficiency, and fewer aches after long rides. Yet it’s one of the most misunderstood services in cycling.

At Swanny’s Cycles, we answer these bike fitting questions for riders in Henderson, Las Vegas and beyond. This FAQ break it down clearly, without pressure.

What is a professional bike fit?

A professional bike fit is a detailed process where we adjust your bike to match your body, flexibility, riding goals, and biomechanics.

It typically includes:

  • Saddle height, fore/aft, and angle (pressure mapping also available!)

  • Cleat positioning

  • Handlebar reach and drop

  • Weight distribution and balance

  • Off-bike movement analysis

  • Foot measurements: length, width and proper arch support

The goal goes beyond comfort — it’s helping you ride more efficiently and sustainably.

Do I really need a bike fit if I’m not racing?

Yes. In fact, many non-racers benefit the most.

A proper fit helps:

  • Reduces hand, neck, knee, and lower back pain

  • Improves comfort on longer rides

  • Increases confidence and control

  • Prevents overuse injuries

You don’t need to be chasing watts to deserve a bike that fits you correctly.

When should I get a bike fit?

Good times to get a bike fit:

  • If you’re experiencing discomfort or pain

  • When increasing mileage or intensity

  • After an injury or major flexibility change

  • Before your next bike purchase
    • This will help determine the correct size bike based off of your personal measurements, not just the limitations of what the bike can be adjusted to. Believe it or not, its a common thing for customers to purchase a new bike that is the incorrect size!

Even experienced riders are often surprised how much improvement is possible with small, precise adjustments.

How long does a bike fitting take?

Most professional bike fits take 1.5 to 2.5 hours, depending on complexity.

We take our time because:

  • Every body moves differently

  • Rushed fits miss important details

  • Comfort and performance depend on precision

  • A lot of the new bikes are becoming more and more integrated

This is not a quick saddle adjustment — it’s a thoughtful process.

Do you use a sizing bike during the fitting process?

Yes. At Swanny’s Cycles, we use a Size Cycle as part of our professional bike fitting process.

A Size Cycle allows us to:

  • Dial in saddle height and angle, crank arm length, bar width, hood placement

  • Test these different positions before making changes to your actual bike

  • Identify the correct frame size and geometry

  • Reduce guesswork when fitting new bikes

This is especially helpful for riders purchasing a new road bike or looking to confirm they’re on the right size before making a major investment.

What fitting technology do you use?

We use the VelogicFit system, a dynamic bike fitting technology designed to analyze how you move on the bike in real time.

Velogic Fit helps us:

  • Assess body alignment and joint angles while pedaling

  • Make precise, data-informed adjustments

  • Balance comfort, efficiency, and sustainability

  • Fine-tune positions based on how you actually ride, not just static measurements

Technology supports the process — but experience guides the decisions. We combine data with hands-on expertise to create a fit that works in the real world.

Can a bike fit help with pain or numbness?

Often, yes — but honesty matters here.

Common issues we address:

  • Hand or foot numbness

  • Knee pain

  • Saddle discomfort

  • Neck and shoulder tension

  • low back pain

While a bike fit can’t fix every issue, an improper fit is one of the most common root causes we see in the shop.

Should I get fit before or after buying a bike?

Ideally, before or immediately after.

A pre-purchase fit can:

  • Confirm correct frame size to prevent an expensive mistake

  • Narrow down geometry that works for you (bar width, crank length, stem length etc)

A post-purchase fit:

  •  ensures your new bike is dialed in correctly from day one.

What should I bring to my bike fitting?

  • Your current bike along with cycling shoes, socks and cleats

  • Bibs or fitted riding shorts

  • Any previous fit measurements (if you have them)

  • Any spare parts your bike came with as we might need them. With bike manufacturers making bikes more and more proprietary, we recommend bringing all those small parts to expedite turn around for you.

The more we can see how you actually ride, the better the results.

Is bike fitting worth the cost?

For most riders, yes — especially compared to:

  • Replacing saddles repeatedly (this is where our Gebiomized pressure mapping service shines!)

  • Chasing discomfort with new components

  • Riding less because of pain

A good bike fit is an investment in comfort, longevity, and enjoyment.
